Frederick Ward joined the East Sussex Constabulary on .....and was later appointed as the first Detective Constable in the force, working from West Street Police Station in Lewes. Ward rose through the ranks to be a Superintendent and retired in       .This caricature by the late Keir Angel, was one of a number of police officers which were created for a Police Ball in the Town Hall, Lewes. Date unknown.

Good to see this picture in your fab. website - just discovered! I remember this picture always hanging in our hallways of our various houses and often wondered if Dad was looking for clues to tell if we'd been naughty or not! I always liked the dog too. I'm sure he would have been honoured to be part of your collection. Strange to be looking at it from a house by the Pacific Ocean in New Zealand!

I was talking about my Grandad Ward to my children tonight & told them to Google Fred Ward. However, I have just done it. I see my Aunty Sue beat me to it above! Grandad (to my knowledge) became Chief Superintendant of the West Sussex Police. He passed away when I was 19 (now 53). I remember my brother Richard and I used to spend many school holidays with him and my Nana, Stella in Lewes and later on in Seaford.
