Pocket books were not issued until January 1910 and you wonder how officers managed without them. Nowadays court evidence is based on the policeman's pocket notebook.

This is a photograph of me when I was PC 167. It was taken at Saltdean whilst on speed radar duties, by a professional photographer from Rottingdean. I was in the process of reporting him for speeding. Spring 1965.
