Football Duty

The first recorded use of horses on football duty at Hove was on February 4 1911, when three mounted policemen were deployed for the Brighton v Aston Villa Charity Shield match. The ‘mounties’ also patrolled the Kingsway to “prevent excessive driving of motor cars and omnibuses”.
