AN INSPECTION IN HASTINGS IN 1934, including the distinctive straw helmets worn during the summer months between 1918 and 1937. These were prone to losing their shape when wet, and were nicknamed ‘beehives’ and ‘donkey’s breakfasts’ by tourists.
