Sussex Police Photo Archive 1940-41

The declaration of war on September 3 1939 necessitated the immediate protection of Police Stations against air raids. These sandbags were eventually replaced by a blast wall which was demolished at the end of the war.

Police officers assist with the apprehension of a Luftwaffe pilot rescued from the sea.
